I know what you're thinking...rock, paper, scissors.

Actually, I’m talking about the packaging for our newest product line, Unpeeled All-Natural Handmade Soaps. In an effort to make our soap packaging recyclable but waterproof, sustainable and non-toxic, we decided to use Rock Paper.
Rock Paper is a mineral/calcium carbonate/rock based paper with a proprietary binding agent to hold it all together. This proprietary binder imparts several distinctive qualities to Rock Paper:
Water resistance
Stretchability
Flexibility
The production process for Rock Paper is noteworthy for its environmental considerations:
It requires no water, eliminating wastewater concerns
No harmful chemicals are used in its manufacture
The inherent properties of its components provide its waterproof nature
Unlike traditional paper, which typically undergoes post-production coloring, Rock Paper incorporates pigments during the production process. Additionally, Rock Paper non-toxic and vegan friendly.
Rock Paper was originally designed with packaging in mind but you can also purchase it as art paper through their on-line store, Rockpaper.Store. It is acid free making it archival, mildew resistant, mold resistant and insect resistant.
Manufacturing of Rock Paper is a sustainable process. Here are sustainability statements provided by the manufacturer.
Rock Paper Store art paper products vs. a coated paper wrapper with the same weights and manufactured with US supply chain should produce:
CO2 production savings (kg CO2 eq-/kg): 57%
CO2 end of life-landfill saving (kg CO2 eq-/kg): 81%
Water footprint production savings (m3): 66%
Rock Paper Store art paper is recyclable. Depose of paper in any plastic recycling storage container.
